QB receives honors from Touchdown Club
Marathon High School football player Adam Ross has been selected as Outstanding Football Player of the Year for high schools Class 1A to 3A by the South Florida Touchdown Club Foundation.
The club is a Miami-based group dedicated to the continuing education of high-school seniors, particularly student athletes.
Ross, a senior, is one of four honorees including Outstanding Professional Player Jason Taylor from the Miami Dolphins, Outstanding College Player Chris Leak from the Florida Gators and Outstanding High School Football Player for Class 4A to 6A Doug Wiggins of North Miami Beach High School.
Dolphins football coach Lance Martin said Ross received nominations and votes from coaches across South Florida.
“This award says a lot, and he rightfully deserves it,” Martin said. “He was probably the most coachable quarterback I've coached, and he listened the most. It's just the type of kid he is.”
This past season, Ross became the first quarterback under Martin to pass for more than 1,000 yards as he helped the team break a string of school records including points scored (29.2 per game), points allowed (14 per game), yards earned (357 per game) and yards allowed (167 per game).
Ross, who also doubled as a defensive back, is looking to play football at Division 2 and 3 colleges in either Massachusetts, Iowa or Virginia.
Martin said he, other school officials and Ross and his family will attend the South Florida Touchdown Club awards ceremony April 19 in Miami.
