Tebow Looks Strong in Gators' Scrimmage
GAINESVILLE – For those critics wondering if Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow could do more than run with the football got an emphatic answer during the Gators’ Orange and Blue spring game Saturday.
Tebow completed 17-of-27 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns as his Blue squad defeated the Orange squad, 27-21 before an estimated crowd of 47.500 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The sophomore led his team on scoring drives on four of the first five possessions of the opening half, connecting on touchdown passes of 7 yards to Aaron Hernandez, 9 yards to Louis Murphy and 4 yards to Cade Holliday.
He credits his time as Chris Leak’s understudy last year as to why he feels confident today.
“Chris did a really good job at managing a game,’’ Tebow said. “He showed me that I didn’t always have to make the play by running a guy over and to make good decisions.
``I think I’ve improved tremedously,’’ Tebow said compared to when he first arrived at UF. ``I’m a different player. My decision making is better and I’m managing the offense.’’
He appeared comfortable all day alternating between the short and the medium-range passes. Plus, Tebow displayed discipline by throwing at least three balls away instead of forcing it into coverage or taking a sack.
``Chris learned a lot from Tim and Tim learned a lot from Chris about game management,’’ UF coach Urban Meyer said. ``The way he throws the short ball is great …. Tim Tebow is ready to play quarterback at Florida.’’
