Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said today that he likes what he's seeing from second-year guard Josh Beekman. The 6-foot-2, 315-pound Beekman started in the Bears' preseason loss to Kansas City because left guard Terrence Metcalf was out with knee surgery.
Beekman wound up achieving an NFL rarity - playing a full preseason game. He moved over to center in the second half when starter Olin Kreutz came off the field, and finished the game playing there. Beekman was chosen in the fourth round of the 2007 draft out of Boston College, but never played last year.
